# When Booksy is no longer enough

> Booksy brings salons new clients through its app, for a fee. Here is when a business outgrows it, and how moving to a booking system you own works.

Booksy puts salons and barbers in front of millions of people on its app, with reminders, deposits and marketing in one subscription. If it covers how you work, stay with it. This page is for the moment its fees and limits cost more than the app brings.

When Booksy is the right choice. For many salons and barbers Booksy is the better choice. Stay with it when:
- New clients from the Booksy app are a big part of your bookings.
- Reminders, deposits and cancellation fees solve your no-show problem.
- Text campaigns, loyalty cards and review requests are all the marketing you need.
- A Booksy profile, booked from Instagram, Google or Facebook, is fine for your clients.

Signs you have outgrown Booksy:
- Boost fees add up: In the US, Booksy charges 30% of a new Boost client's first visit, up to $100. In Poland it is 45%, up to 250 zł net.
- The bill grows with your team: In the US it is $29.99 a month, plus $20 for every extra team member.
- Your client list sits in the app: Booksy's help says to contact support to get your client list with contact details. We found no export you run yourself.
- Your brand shares the page: Your booking page lives on Booksy's marketplace, where clients searching nearby also see other salons.
- Your rules have no setting: Packages across services, prices by stylist and time of day, memberships with your own rules.
- You want your own app: A branded app for your regulars, with their history, points and offers, and no other salon in sight.

Booksy or a system you own:
- New clients: Booksy: A one-time fee on each new Boost client: 30% up to $100 in the US. Your own system: No commission. Clients come through your site, Google and your own campaigns.
- Client data: Booksy: Kept by Booksy. The client list comes through support. Your own system: In your own database, exported whenever you like.
- Brand: Booksy: A profile on Booksy's marketplace, next to other businesses. Your own system: Your own site and booking flow, with nobody else on the page.
- Price: Booksy: A monthly fee, plus a fee for each extra team member. Your own system: One fixed price for the build, then hosting billed by usage.

Cost:
In the US, Booksy costs $29.99 a month plus $20 for each extra team member. A salon with five people pays about $110 a month, or $1,320 a year, before Boost and card fees.
Boost is where it grows. Say Boost brings 20 new clients a month with a $60 first visit. At 30%, that is $360 a month, or $4,320 a year. Boost is optional, and it may bring clients you would not find otherwise, so count what it brings as well as what it costs.
A system we build costs $15,000 to $50,000, paid once. It pays off when the fees reach thousands a year, or when you want your own brand and data. If most new clients come from the Booksy app, you can keep Booksy for that and book regulars on your own system.
After the build there is no subscription and no commission on bookings. Hosting is billed by usage, and three years of support come with the project.

Moving off Booksy. We found no export you run yourself, so we start with what Booksy support sends you and what your calendar shows. We move it before the switch, so nobody has to book again.
1. Ask for your data: You ask Booksy support for your client list and history. We tell you exactly what to ask for.
2. Map: We match services, staff, clients and upcoming appointments to the new system.
3. Run side by side: Your new booking site goes live while Booksy still takes bookings. Boost can stay on while it pays.
4. Switch: You point your Instagram, Google and website links to the new site. Then you decide if Booksy stays for new clients.

FAQ:
- Q: Is Booksy a bad tool?
A: No. Its app brings real new clients, and for many salons that is worth the fee. We build systems for businesses that want their own brand, data and costs.
- Q: Can we keep Booksy for new clients and our own system for regulars?
A: Yes. Some businesses keep the marketplace for new clients and book regulars on their own site, with no fee. At the brief we check how to keep the two calendars in step.
- Q: Does Booksy charge for clients who book through our own link?
A: Booksy says no. The Boost fee applies to new clients who find you on the marketplace while Boost is on, not to clients who come through your own link.
- Q: Can you get our client history out of Booksy?
A: Booksy's help says to ask support for the client list. We take what they send and import it, so the new system starts with your clients.
- Q: Do you take a share of our payments?
A: No. There is no commission on bookings. Payments go to your own Stripe or Adyen account.
